TRUSSVILLE, AL (WBRC) -

The head football coach for Hewitt-Trussville High School is stepping down in order to accept a promotion to the Trussville City Schools Central Office.

Coach Hal Riddle has applied and interviewed for the Director of Student Services job at the Central Office, according to Trussville City Schools. The current director, Bill Hamilton, is retiring from the position.

Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill is going to recommend Riddle's promotion in a Board of Education meeting on April 21, school officials said in a release.

The promotion will be effective immediately, leaving a head coaching position open for the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies.

HTHS Assistant Principal Barry Allphin will be the interim head football coach during spring workouts and the search for a new coach, according to TCS.

"Principal Tim Salem, Athletic Director Karen Johns, and Superintendent Pattie Neill will lead a search for the new HTHS Head Football Coach and make a recommendation to the Board," the release states.

The school system thanked Coach Riddle for serving as the head coach for the Huskies for 12 years.
