KSLA News 12 Editorial: April 15th-Municipal Auditorium

It is so important to preserve our historic buildings and that's why what happened earlier this month is a big deal.

It was the grand re-opening of the Municipal Auditorium in Shreveport. Since it was opened in the 1920's, the auditorium has been the venue for countless performances. Those on the stage include Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Lead Belly.

It was the home to the famous Louisiana Hayride which broadcast on radio throughout much of the country in the 40's and 50's. That show helped to put Shreveport on the map.

The renovations cost more than $5 million. I believe money well spent and will help to ensure we will all be able to enjoy the Municipal Auditorium for years to come.

I'm James Smith.

Tonight at 11:59 p.m., KSLA's extended agreement with DirecTV will expire and they may drop this station from their lineup. We have been working hard to stay on their system, but they have simply refused to make a fair deal.
