Hundreds come to Riverwalk to raise awareness for M.S.

Walkers and joggers from around Alabama took part in an event to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society's landmark event was held at Riverwalk Stadium on Saturday. The event was held to support those living with M.S., and to raise money to fund research in order to fight the disease.

"It is incredibly powerful to see the community come together to celebrate those living with M.S., but also to raise money and awareness for those living with M.S. in the community at large," said Andrew Bell, member of the National M.S. Society, Alabama-Mississippi chapter. "We are very fortunate here in the state of Alabama, currently we have over $3 million invested in research projects at the University of Alabama at Birmingham."

M.S. affects about 6,300 people in Alabama and Mississippi. More than 400 people participated in the event.
