Volunteers invited for Lee County's Great American Cleanup

Lee County leaders want you to join a big cleanup effort this weekend.

Volunteers have picked up 39-tons of trash during the Great American Clean up since they started keeping records eight years ago.

Saturday the Sheriff's office will remove metal debris from the roads with trailer mounted magnets.

County residents can bring their unwanted and non-hazardous items to the Lee County landfill, but they ask you separate the materials.

Lee County Code Enforcement Director Jim Wright said "We need the stuff separated, metals from plastic so it can be more easily managed out here. We are going to limit four tires per household. And the county does reserve the right to turn some materials away."

Unserviceable flags will be taken in for proper disposal... and unwanted prescription drugs can be dropped off at the Sheriff's Office or Leesburg Police Department.

If you want to volunteer for the Great American Cleanup from 8 to noon Saturday,  call the Lee County Chamber of Commerce at 759-2422.
