The UAB basketball team heads into the Conference USA tournament as the No. 8 seed overall but that isn't stopping the Blazers from keeping their heads high.
"We're confident going into the tournament," said junior forward Chad Frazier. "We know we can win and we know we can beat those guys. We're ready to shock the world."
And so far this season, UAB has shocked the world, at least in rebounding. The Blazers are second in the nation in rebounds, averaging 48.8 points per game. Although the team prides themselves in their performance on the glass, offense will be key.
"The rebounding has been kind of what we're hung out hat on this season," said head coach Jerod Haase. "We've played hard this season, but having said that for us to be able to make a run in this tournament we are going to have to start scoring the basketball. It's from the three-point line scoring around the rim and it's also free throws."
One of UAB's top scorers, CJ Washington, is still day-to-day after hurting his shoulder March 2, but his teammates believe he still has shot to play.
"He practiced today," said senior forward/guard Jordan Swing. "I didn't hear him complaining about his shoulder too much so I feel like he should be about ready to go."
