The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office is bringing back itsvolunteer posse program.
Dozens of people filled the old fire college buildingTuesday night to learn about how to become a member. The volunteer posse willhelp search for missing people using 4-wheelers and on horseback. Members will alsoconduct residential checks in neighborhoods, assist during disaster situationsalong with other duties.
Lt. Andy Norris with the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Office said aprogram like this would have been used after the April 27,2011 tornado. Norris adds the program will also help with community building.
"It's just a great force multipler for us. Its good for us.It's good for the community. And it gives them a way to give back to thecommunity," Norris said.
The sheriff's office is looking for 40 to 50 members. Tobecome a member of this posse, you have to be at least 18 years old, pass abackground check and you can't be a felon. Click here to learn more and download an application: http://www.tcsoal.org/pr/f1391806122.pdf
