Suspect caught in robbery of elderly Selma man

SELMA, AL (WSFA) -

The Selma Police Department says the suspect wanted in a residential robbery of an elderly man, has been arrested.

According to officials, 21-year-old Devontae Terrell Jiles is accused of entering a residence, overpowering an elderly man and making off with $620.

Selma police officers responded to a robbery call Friday in the 200 Block of Alabama Avenue.

When officers arrived they met with the victim, a man in his 80's. The victim told officers that he is unable to walk or stand on his own and was sitting in his chair when the robbery took place.

The victim's door was unlocked, and he was the only one home when the robbery occurred. The victim attempted to fight off the suspect but was overpowered and received an injury to his hand.

Jiles is accused of 3rd degree robbery charge and has been taken to the Dallas County Jail with no bond.
