BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Several agencies patrolled the roadways Thursday helping motorists recover vehicles they had to abandon earlier this week.

Tiffany Wormley is one of the hundreds of drivers that were forced to leave their vehicles to seek shelter from the snow.

"A guy got out of his truck and pushed the car to the side of the road and I couldn't move it. I was scared to move it any further. So I just decided to get out and walk," said Wormley.

The Birmingham resident returned to pick up her vehicle Thursday but the battery was dead. Luckily help was just around the corner.

State Troopers and the Alabama Service and Assistance Patrol spent most of the day helping stranded motorists get back in their car, and back on the road.

"He was actually down the street somewhere else and he drove down there and then he turned around and came back and helped us," said Wormley.

The Alabama Army National Guard as also helping motorists move their cars or in some cases moving the vehicles for them.

"We're here to primarily clear the roads," said Chief Clay Boles.

While crews continue to work Boles says it's important that drivers be extra vigilant.

"Just be considerate, and if they see somebody working just be considerate and slow down and stop and let us do what we need to do," he said.
