HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -

Traffic conditions are slowly starting to improve on Valleydale Road in Hoover. FOX6 News Reporter Erika Gonzalez said ice was melting off the road around noon.

This was good sign for many parents who were trying to pick up their children from Bernice Elementary School and nearby Berry Middle and Spain Park High School.

Traffic was gridlocked in Hoover yesterday leaving many stuck in their vehicles in frigid temperatures.

Even though this small window may allow some parents to get their children, roadways across our viewing area remain extremely icy and are too dangerous to drive on.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said roads are impassable and still closed as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.
