ALDOT engineer: Roads aren't clearing well

As the day progressed on Wednesday, many in the Birmingham metro area were hoping to see the Alabama Department of Transportation declare that the roads were going to be back to operating order. According to Brian Davis with ALDOT, it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

"It doesn't look good at all," said Davis as he began a phone interview on Good Day Alabama. "I was hoping last night that if we did some interviews around 9 or 10, we'd be able to report something real positive and maybe tell people by lunchtime they could get out. It's looking really dicey right now."

Davis says he still encourages people to stay inside and off of the roads. Currently, ALDOT is working to clear roads around I-459 north and I-20 near the Bass Pro Shops in Leeds. According to Davis, competition on the roads with cars is making work on the roads next to impossible.

Much of the equipment used in the Birmingham area was sent south to where the forecasts predicted the storm to hit. Davis says he has recalled that equipment and it is working towards Birmingham.

Davis says he will try to make another update by 3 p.m. Tuesday.
