A travel advisory remains in effect for all state, U.S. and interstate highways across Alabama, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation.

ALDOT is urging people to avoid driving until the road conditions improve.

"ALDOT crews are working around the clock to treat roads and bridges with priority to mainline interstates in an effort to keep them open or clear back-ups. Some areas remain impassable on the state system, including locations around the Birmingham area," the department said in release.

Operators at the ALDOT emergency call center will resume answering travel-related and road condition information at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29. The number is 1-888-588-2848.
