Students are reacting after UAB announced this week that Bill Clark is the new head coach for Blazer's football.

"Actually I don't know much about him," Tanner Webster, a UAB student, said.

"He came from Jacksonville State right?" Justin Drake, another UAB student, said.

The UAB Blazers have struggled on the football field. This has lead to a dramatic drop in attendance over the last year in Legion Field.

"The only thing I know people here say the football program is not so good," student Guy Biessen said.

Still many students are hopeful with Clark's hiring the Blazers fortunes will turn around into a winning football program.

"What I hear from players in high school he was a really good coach. He can probably turn things around," Drake said.

Some on the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees have questioned the football program and blocked efforts for a new stadium. Some students believe if Clark fails to turn the program around it could be in serious trouble.

"I think if they turn around that and a new football stadium that will be just as good. I don't want to see the football program shut down. I like football," student Dylan McQuarry said.

"We need players that want to play. You look at them sometime the don't look like they want it. We need good players and a coach," Webster said.

At Jacksonville State University, FOX6 News spoke to students who were still surprised by the turn of events.

While some of the students weren't happy about Clark's decision to leave, many say they wish him well.

"To me, he was a good coach...turned things around and they did their thing this year," Craig Lawrence said. "And I'm proud of them."

Another student was excited to see what new JSU head coach John Grass has to offer in the coming season.

"I feel like Coach Grass will do great things for Jacksonville football and I'm very excited to see what he can do for our great university," Ashley Anderson said.
