A Tuscaloosa family is mourning after a mother was killed and her husband and little boy injured in a traffic accident.
Family members tell FOX6 News that Michael Sartain, his wife Lisa, and their little boy, Jonas, were expected for dinner Thursday. Instead, Lisa's cousin arrived to tell them there had been a terrible accident.
Kenneth Traweek recalls telling loved ones about the crash.
"I told her...I heard Lisa, Michael and Jonas have been in a wreck," he said.
According to state troopers, the accident happened just before 7 p.m. Thursday on Highway 171 and Tom Montgomery Road.
Forty-five-year-old Lisa Sartain of Northport was killed in the crash.
"Lisa had died on the scene and they life flighted Jonas to Birmingham," Traweed said.
Lisa Sartain was a passenger in a 2005 Dodge pickup truck when it collided with a 1999 Toyota pickup truck.
Michael Sartain, who was driving the Dodge, Jonas Sartain and Jessie Hannah, the driver of the Toyota, were also injured.
Traweek describes Lisa as family-oriented and a devoted mother. Now with her gone, he expects the family to pull together to care for her husband and son.
"Lisa has never really left her mother and daddy," Traweek said. "She lived next door to them. She's always family first."
The two drivers were transported by ground to DCH and the child was airlifted to be treated in Birmingham. Michael Sartain was released from the hospital and Hannah is listed in good condition.
The child is listed in fair condition at Children's of Alabama hospital in Birmingham.
