JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -
A former Homewood pastor accused of killing his wife made his first court appearance in Jefferson County Thursday.
Richard Shahan was extradited from Tennessee to Birmingham Wednesday. He was originally arrested in Nashville as he was preparing to board a flight to Germany. His lawyers say he was going on a mission trip.
In court, the judge explained the charge to Shahan. Shahan's attorney says he will be filing a motion for a bond hearing to try and get the 53-year-old out of prison while he awaits his trial.
Shahan is charged with murder for allegedly killing his wife, Karen, at their Homewood home last summer.
