BLOUNT COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Blount County Sheriff's office in Oneonta is dealing with a big mess after a water line broke.

Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington walked FOX6 News through the portion of the sheriff's office that was damaged.

"At 9:30 this morning, the water pipe which is a feeding line for our sprinkle system ruptured. You had a one inch pipe with water pressure at like 125 pounds shooting out and it ran from four to six minutes before you could get to a shut off valve to stop it," he said.

Arrington says the break flooded the lobby and four offices with three inches of wather and collapsed the ceiling. All of the computers were damaged as was the phone system.

The jail was not impacted, but the administrative side of the sheriff's office is closed until further notice. Anyone needing a report or a permit are being redirected to the Hayden location.

"Our calls are routed to 911 dispatch center. There will be no interruption of service when a citizen calls for a deputy, we're just here basically trying to rebuild," said Arrington.

Arrington knows the cost to fix this will be in the thousands. The good news is the computers were backed up and no information was lost.

"We're just going to be delayed of a couple of days getting back up and running," he said.

Arrington is hoping to be back up and running by Friday.
