Birmingham leaders are hoping for a good show for Saturday's BBVA Compass Bowl.

The game will feature the Vanderbilt Commodores and the Houston Cougars. Last year's game between Ole Miss and Pittsburgh sold more than 56,000 tickets. Supporters believe having another SEC teams will help draw fans to Saturday's game.

Mark Meadows, the Executive Director of the BBVA Compass Bowl, expects another good turnout.

"We've had a very supportive corporate community. Very supportive fan base in this town. I think the game has grown because we have had good contests," Meadows said.

As of Friday the bowl game has sold more than 44,000 tickets with hopes that number will go up before kickoff.

Herm Edwards, ESPN football analyst, said Birmingham has the ingredients to be successful Edwards said there despite the stadium age there is historic Legion Field, good teams and fans. Edward adds the city needs to do their part.

"I think the hospitality of all the people involved in this bowl. As you know they are going to bring fans from Houston and Vanderbilt. Hospitality has a lot to do with," Meadows said.

Meadows and ESPN, which runs the bowl game, both expect to have a new title sponsor before next year's game. BBVA is dropping their sponsorship after this year's game.

"Bowls go through this from time to time. Even the so called big bowls change sponsors from time to time. This is not an usual thing to happen in our world," Meadows said.

Last year's bowl game brought in more than $21 million to the area economy.
