Montgomery nightclub shooting victims' families speak out

The families who lost their loved ones in a nightclub shooting Montgomery Saturday are speaking out on the arrest of Jason McWilliams.

Montgomery police say they've charged McWilliams with two counts of capital murder for his alleged role in the shooting deaths of 22-year-old Montgomery native and rising rap star Glenn "Doe B" Thomas and 21-year-old Kimberle Johnson.

Barbara and James Green have already reached the point of forgiving the man accused of killing their daughter.

"We forgive him. It's a sad situation. He is sick. We need Jesus and in order to get to the Father we need to go through Jesus," said the Greens.

Barbara Green is Kimberle's mother. James Green is her step-father.

"She had just been accepted in the social work program at Troy University for the 2014 academic semester. To know Kimberle was to love her. She was such a beautiful young lady," Barbara Green said.

It all ended in a blink of an eye Saturday at 1 a.m.

Johnson had just turned 21 on Christmas Day and the club outing was part of her birthday celebration. It turns out Johnson was an innocent bystander caught up in the crossfire in an argument between Thomas and McWilliams. It's not clear what the two men were fighting about.

In south Montgomery, Tamara Thomas says the Thomas family now has peace since police arrested a suspect. Thomas did not perform at Centennial Bar & Grill Friday but was there as a patron.

"We have a lot of peace because we feel we can kind of move forward a little," Thomas said.

Thomas says she had not heard of McWilliams until the arrest.

Court records show McWilliams has a lengthy rap sheet with a mix of menacing and drug charges. McWilliams' family initially agreed to talk with WSFA 12 News on camera shortly after the arrest but declined at the last minute. A relative with the family told WSFA 12 News in a text message that McWilliams is innocent and the club video doesn't lie. That same relative also alleges that witnesses say McWilliams didn't do it.
