After nearly 33 years, Scott Richards is leaving his news anchor position at WBRC.

"This seemed like the right time in my life to cut back on the number of hours I work each week, doing fewer newscasts," Scott said. "The station and I were unable to figure out a schedule that made sense for both of us."

Scott has agreed to stay on the air until Friday, Jan. 31. After that, he plans to take some time off and consider new ways to "earn and serve," as he put it.

"Most of my best recollections from FOX6 News are the people. Actually, I should say, the characters! What a group through the years -- with every range of talent and personality. My thanks go out to all of my co-workers who contributed to my success through the years, especially the news producers, reporters, photographers and video editors who are the backbone of every great broadcast news department.  I also want to thank my co-anchors with whom I was privileged to work," Scott said.

FOX6 WBRC's VP & Gen. Manager Lou Kirchen said, "Although I‘ve only worked at FOX6 WBRC for the last five years, I've certainly been impressed by Scott's anchoring of the evening news Monday through Friday, and during the major news and weather events that occurred in that time frame. Scott's knowledge and experience will be missed. I wish him the very best."

"I would like to thank Scott for his service to our station and our viewers," said James Finch, FOX6 WBRC's News Director. "Scott and I have worked on the same team for more than 17 years, and I have always appreciated his ability to strike the correct tone in coverage."
