BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

FOX6 News has requested maintenance records from the Birmingham Housing Authority as part of our investigation into the Gate City apartment explosion.

Friday, the housing authority said they "will provide these documents within a reasonable time. There are numerous pages."

The housing authority hasn't given any indication of when that will be.

FOX6 News also also requested maintenance records from the Alabama Public Service Commission, which regulates natural gas distribution and transmission in the state. They have asked us to submit a written request asking if Algasco records are public record.

The National Transportation Safety Board suspects that natural gas may have had a role in the explosion. They are currently in Birmingham investigating the explosion.

Once we hear back from the commission and housing authority, we'll update you on MyFoxAl.com, Facebook and Twitter.

Sharon Tinsley, Executive Director of the Alabama Broadcasters Assocation, says it can be difficult to get these types of documents.

"The people in the front line who are answering the phone or at the desk when you might walk in the door don't necessarily understand their responsibilities and what's required of them and that is to make those documents public and to do so in a very timely manner," she said.

One woman, Tyrennis Mabry, 40, was killed in the blast. Her fiance, Daryle Brown, and seven others were injured.
