It all started with a picture and a plea on Instagram.

Clinton Catlin asked for volunteers to help feed people in Birmingham for Thanksgiving.

"We did it for Thanksgiving. Fed over 250 people in two weeks and it's amazing," said Catlin.

Volunteers not only donated their time but breakfast and it's what started Operation Feed Birmingham.

Catlin said while feeding others is involved he's hoping the organization that's made up of young professionals will feed the city's soul.

"We're feeding the city of Birmingham because we're starving right now. One of the things that we're starving for is jobs, education, the crime rate here," said Catlin.

He and others are continuing that helping spirit Monday, Dec. 23. Their goal is to feed 500 people at Boutwell Auditorium starting at 6 a.m. and ending at 10 a.m.

And the giving continues that night.

"We've teamed up with some local choirs. We are going to do it with the teens. We got a live D.J. We've got Santa Claus. You get to take a picture with Santa Claus. Free toys, we wanted to bring the love back to Birmingham," said Catlin.

Barbers will be on site to give haircuts, showers will be available and UAB students will help offer medical assistance.

Catlin said this is just his way of giving back.

"I do it because I've been blessed this year and why not be a blessing to someone else," said Catlin.

Donations are still needed at this time. The big donation they're hoping for are toys for the kids as well as food and utensils.

Toys for children can be dropped off at Boutwell Auditorium Monday until 6 p.m. If you would like more information on how to help you can visit http://feedbham.blogspot.com/.
