Target customers could be affected in data breach

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Secret Service says it's investigating the theft of credit and debit card numbers at Target stores.

Krebs on Security, a blog that first reported the news, said that breach involved nearly all Target stores in the U.S. Millions of customers could be impacted.

Investigators believe the data was obtained via software installed on machines that customers use to swipe their cards when paying.

Target has nearly 1,800 stores in the U.S. The retailer has not commented.
