Christmas came early for students at one Augusta elementary school, Wednesday afternoon.Fort Gordon soldiers adopted kids at Barton Chapel Elementary School and handed them Christmas gifts in an assembly at the school.
Barton Chapel's gym was flooded with gifts and food for the students and their families. Each soldier was given a list of their student's Christmas wishes.
"It's an honor to give back," said First Sgt. Donald Evans, who organized the event. "It feels great when you want to give back to someone who has given back to you. It's a blessing in disguise."
Organizers of the event said this is only the first step in an ongoing partnership between Fort Gordon and Barton Chapel Elementary.
