KSLA News 12 Editorial: Dec. 16th-Fire Danger

This is the time of year for increased fires, often resulting in serious injuries and death.

The most dangerous time of the year for fires is now during the months of December, January and February.

There have already been several fire related deaths in the ArkLaTex in recent weeks including one at an apartment complex in Cedar Grove. The most unfortunate part of those deaths is they were all preventable.

As we enter into the deadly fire season, keep this in mind:

  • Insure that you have working smoke alarms in all areas of your home.
  • Establish and practice a home fire evacuation plan with your family.
  • Do not use your stove as a heating source.
  • Allow 3 feet between the space heater and potential combustibles.
  • Never leave small children home alone or unattended in a room with an open flame or candle.

Residential fires claim the lives of more than 4,000 people in the United States each year. Take care not to be one of them.
