CBS Atlanta viewer acts as Santa for family living in 'problem' house

CBS Atlanta got action Tuesday for a family that said it's living in a house of horrors.

"There is mold on the ceiling and floor. I just had to throw a dresser away because it was molded," said Lula Burton.

For the last week CBS Atlanta has been trying to get Capitol Property Management to fix the problems. Monday a company manager made a promise to Burton.

"They are going to come out to the house Tuesday," said Nya Brown, who is with Capitol Property Management.

Tuesday, Capitol Property Management followed through and sent someone to the home to replace missing window panes.

"I didn't think they were going to come and they came to fix the window panes. It is going to be warm in there now," Burton said.

Burton also received a gift from a CBS Atlanta viewer who was outraged by the conditions her family is living in.

"The conditions are deplorable and despicable," said the viewer who wanted to remain anonymous.

"One, two, three, four, five hundred dollars. Thank you and I wish him a Merry Christmas, too. This is a blessing, it is a blessing," Burton said.

"There is nothing any worse than a child getting up on Christmas morning and not having any toys or hungry. That is why I donated the money to that family," said the viewer.

But the good news didn't stop there for Burton.

"I just got a call and Capitol Property Management told me it will be a couple of days before they restore the power to the house but they are going to put us in a hotel for a couple of days 'til the power gets back on," said Burton. "If it wasn't for CBS Atlanta News and the viewer, my family wouldn't be where we are now. Thank you."
