Multiple groups offer help to those affected in Gate City apartment explosion

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Red Cross, the Redmont Hotel and several Birmingham radio stations are offering help to those affected by an explosion in the Gate City area.

Red Cross volunteers are providing water, snacks and meals to residents and first responders. Anyone who would like to help their efforts should visit redcross.org/alabama to make a monetary donation.

The Redmont Hotel, 95.7 Jamz and 98.7 KISS FM are organizing a supply drive for the families affected. They will be set up from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the Roebuck Walmart to collect these items:

- Toothpaste

- Toothbrushes

- Lotion

- Deodorant

- Blankets

- Razors

- Toys

- Non-perishable foods

The hotel, located at 2101 5th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203, is offering a two-night stay to displaced families and the public can drop off supplies at the hotel through the end of the week.
