Former Houston County Commissioner Bobby Snellgrove was arrested Tuesday on felony ethics violations, according to Attorney General Luther Strange's office.

The Attorney General's office says Snellgrove faces an indictment charging him with two state ethics law violations.

The first count alleges Snellgrove intentionally used his office to illegally obtain for personal gain some $214,000 for himself, a family member or Regional Services, LLC, from Ronnie Gilley and his Country Crossings business.

The second count alleges that Snellgrove intentionally used his office to illegally obtain for personal gain some $6,000 for himself, a family member or Regional Septic Services, LLC, from Gilley and Country Crossings.

Snellgrove turned himself in to authorities at the Houston County Jail. He was later released on bond.

If convicted, the former commissioner faces a penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $30,000 for each violation.
