SSU holds "First Lego League Qualifier"

Savannah State University held its 2013 "First Lego League Qualifier" on Saturday.

Approximately 16 teams of up to 10 students, ages 9 to 16, from schools in Bulloch, Chatham, Glynn, and other counties participated in the robotics competition. The student teams programmed an autonomous robot using the "lego mindstorms robot set" to score points on a thematic playing surface, thus creating an innovative solution to a problem as part of their project.

"We're trying to find ways and problems and solutions to most disasters that have gone on, and that's affected everybody," said Dylan Dykes, Captain of the Kilowatts from Vidalia.

The First Lego League is designed to stimulate students' interests in science and technology, while teaching them valuable employment and life skills.
