NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – Freezing temperatures caused some problems for firefighters battling a massive fire at a popular southern Indiana business.
According to New Albany dispatchers, they received the call that Sam's Food and Spirits was up in flames at 3800 Payne Koehler Rd off Charlestown Road in New Albany, Indiana just before midnight Monday.
Fire crews at the scene said heavy smoke and fire were coming from the tavern when they arrived and that prevented them from getting inside right away.
Dispatchers said no one was inside of the building at the time the fire broke out. The owner, Sam Anderson, said his restaurant is a total loss.
"On the outside, I'm fine. But on the inside, I'm trying to figure out... 'Where do you start?'" said Anderson. "It's like starting all over again."
"The one thing I am concerned about is jobs for my employees. And there are a lot of Christmas parties that are supposed to happen in the next couple of weeks. I'm concerned about disappointing people," he added. "No one was hurt; I just don't know where to start right now."
