BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Police are looking for the person who opened fire at a grocery store in Bessemer and injured a female employee. The shooting happened at "The Bessemer Deli and Grocery" Saturday night.

Police say the suspect came into the deli and started dancing and acting disorderly. An employee asked him to stop and that set the suspect off. According to officers, the suspect and two employees got into a fight.

At some point, the owner pulled out a gun and that caused the suspect to run away, but the suspect returned a few minutes later.

"I guess he had to think about what he was going to do, and came back in with the gun... started shooting," said Marilyn Danner, the cousin of the shooting victim.

"Her son was standing right where you were standing and he hollered out, ‘Mama, Mama,' and realized she had been shot," Danner said.

Officers responded to the shooting around 8:37 p.m. Saturday night. The female victim was transported to UAB Hospital for her injury, which was not considered life-threatening.

On Monday, Bessemer police identified the suspect as Ezakeous Marquis Brown. He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and more charges are pending, Lt. Darron Hunter said.

Brown is not in custody. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Bessemer Police at 205-425-2411 or the anonymous tip line at 205-428-3541.
