An Alabama State Trooper report reveals that a Tuscaloosa deputy charged with DUI was driving the wrong way on I-59 last week when he was struck by an 18-wheeler.
Patrick Bailey was arrested and charged with DUI last Friday. He has since bonded out and remains on administrative leave. The truck driver in the incident was taken to DCH, treated and released.
Thursday, FOX6 News obtained the trooper report from the wreck. It states that Bailey, who was in a personal vehicle, was driving northbound onto I-59 on an exit ramp. The report states that Bailey attempted to cross I-59 traveling in the wrong direction when he was struck in the side by the 18-wheeler.
Bailey's vehicle hit the 18-wheeler's front bumper and overturned in the median. The 18-wheeler overturned onto its side and came to rest in the median and the interstate.
The report says that Bailey refused to take a breathalyzer test at the scene and was subsequently charged with DUI.
FOX6 News has also learned that Bailey has been involved in three other wrecks since 2006. A drug and alcohol test was administered by his employer, the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Office. So far, they have not released the results to Fox6.
