How to help typhoon victims in the Philippines

Source: MGN Online Source: MGN Online

As survivors of a massive typhoon in the Philippines face the grim devastation of the storm, the U.S. Marines are on the ground helping with relief efforts.

There are also folks here in Alabama who are contributing to the relief. Living Word International is a ministry that was founded by Jerry Vaughn who lives in Cedar Bluff. For the last 8 years, he and his team have gone to the Philippines twice a year to teach churches about mentoring, leadership and even how to establish businesses in their community.

In fact, Vaughn he usually goes to the Philippines every November and was supposed to be there Friday when the typhoon hit. But his schedule just didn't allow him to go this month. News of the typhoon has hit him hard. He is now organizing a relief effort and that money will go to Christian Frontier Ministries (CFM).

CFM is currently on the ground in Samar Island passing out food, bottled water, toiletries and medicines.

"There's not anyone in the Philippines that hasn't been affected by this," said Vaughn. "I was telling my wife and I keep thinking about our family...if this was us. They don't need help in one month, they need help right now. They need food right now. They need medicine right now. So we appreciate your prayers and your donations. We're trying to get it there as quick as possible and get it in their hands for use," Vaughn said.

If you'd like to donate, you can do so by going directly to the website for Christian Frontier Ministries at http://www.cfm-network.org/. You can follow CFM updates on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ChristianFrontierMinistries/.

A very humid air mass remains parked over Alabama Wednesday night and this will lead to some more patchy fog for the start of the day Thursday. I do think we will see a better coverage of scattered storms.
