Blood drive to honor fallen soldiers held in Jonesboro
JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The
family of Staff Sergeant Paul Brooks hosted the third annual Fallen Soldier
blood drive on Saturday at the Rock of Northeast Arkansas Life Center.
Brooks' family partnered
with the American Red Cross for the event.
His sisters said that they
do this blood drive to keep both his and other soldiers' memories alive.
Brooks was killed in
action in 2009, while serving a second tour of duty in Iraq.
"These people are fighting
for us. They are not just individuals or people who need a job, or they're coming
home to see their family," said Brooks. "These people are doing what keeps us
alive and safe and free."
The Red Cross has
collected 138 pints of blood during the two previous drives. Their goal for
this year is 75 pints.
