TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

A suspicious package with a "pungent smell" was found at the at the Rose Administration building on the University of Alabama's campus Monday afternoon.

An employee in the Internal Admissions office opened up an envelope and felt a "slight stinging sensation" on her hand when she took out a piece of paper, according to Chris Bryant with UA Media Relations.

University spokesperson Shane Dorrill said late Monday evening that "after an examination of the letter, it was determined to be a normal package and there appears to be no other cause for concern."

UAPD and the Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue departments were called to the scene "out of an abundance of caution," Bryant said.

UA officials say no one was injured or hospitalized and the employee who opened the envelope is OK. All employees in the International Admissions office were evacuated due to the incident, which happened around 4:30 p.m.

Bryant says it is not unusual for the admissions office to receive mail from places around the world. There is no word yet on what substance may have been in the envelope.
