A Midfield teen is in the hospital after being shot in the neck Monday night.
Midfield Sgt. Jessie Bell says that the shooting happened around 10:15 p.m. on Fairfield Boulevard. He says the 16-year-old was returning home with his mother after she had picked him up from work.
As they drove into the driveway, police say a suspect fired shots at the car. The teen was hit in the neck and his esophagus was damaged. Bell says the teen has had two surgeries so far and is in the ICU at a local hospital.
His parents told police that earlier in the evening, three males came to the house in a tan-colored vehicle. One of the men went to the door and asked for a "specific person." The father, who was home at the time, asked the men to leave. Just a few minutes later, the mom and 16-year-old arrived home.
The boy's parents say he is a junior and honor roll student at Wenonah High School. Sgt. Bell says investigators do not believe the teen was targeted.
The parents were unharmed and say they don't know who would want to hurt them. However, Sgt. Bell says this home has been burglarized twice in the last three weeks and are considering that the burglary suspects had come back again.
