Authorities found marijuana and a "crack rock" in a truck involved in a police pursuit in Tuscaloosa County Monday morning.

The driver allegedly called 9-1-1 saying he was high on meth and cocaine and wouldn't be taken alive.

The dispatcher said the caller seemed "highly intoxicated and hard to understand," according to Lt. Andy Norris with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies began pursuing the suspect, who was driving a Chevy S-10, at mile marker 70 on I20/59 North. The driver refused to stop after one deputy activated his emergency lights and siren.

Lt. Norris said they tried to deploy stop sticks a couple of times, but were unsuccessful. Alabama State Troopers and Tuscaloosa and Coaling police officers also joined in the chase.

The chase finally ended after the suspect hit a vehicle and spun out of control onto the grass, Lt. Norris said. He tried to get back onto I-20/59 after the wreck, but deputies blocked him and took him into custody.

Tuscaloosa authorities believe the suspect was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. The West Alabama Narcotics Task Force is investigating the case.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, is being evaluated at DCH. Lt. Norris says he will face traffic charges from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
