TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department is investigating a double murder/suicide in the Fosters community. It happened just after midnight Sunday.

The deputies were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. to an area on Sylvan Loop Road on an unknown medical call.  Upon arrival, authorities found a 52-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to the head.  Deputies also found a white Ford F-150 pickup down an embankment, about 50 feet from the truck.  Inside the truck were a dead 52-year old man and a 51-year-old woman.

Investigators are considering the double murder/suicide a domestic situation.  According to authorities, the suspect confronted his wife and her companion at the companion's residence.

He chased the two until he ran them off the roadway and down into the ditch, authorities say. Once the suspect realized both people were dead, he shot and killed himself, according to authorities.

The names of those involved have not been released.  The suspect is a former Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputy that left the department in 1997.

Alabama State Troopers assisted in the investigation.
