JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Two suspects in a double carjacking from Thursday morning are in custody, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports.

Deputies say they were tipped off just before 12 p.m. to the location of one of the carjacked vehicle thanks to a tracking service used by one of the vehicle's owners.

The information showed the car was in the Wylam area near New Mulga Loop Road and Loop Road.

Deputies responded to that location and found one of the hijacked cars, the black Chrysler 300, at a home in the 5200 block of Loop Road.

The sheriff's office said one suspect was trying to take the wheels off the Chrysler when deputies showed up. Another suspect was inside a car nearby.

Both suspects were taken into custody. Their names have not yet been released since they have not yet been formally charged.

Deputies say the white Chevrolet Impala and the suspects' beige Nissan were also found at the same resident. The Nissan was reported stolen out of Forestdale in August, according to officials.

Deputies have not yet found a weapon, although both victims say the suspects fired shots at them. Neither victim was injured in the ordeal.

The first carjacking happened in the 5700 block of Valley Road just before 6 a.m. A woman told authorities that two black males in a beige vehicle fired shots at her and carjacked her black 2007 Chrysler 300.

The second carjacking happened in the 1400 block of Minor Parkway around 7 a.m. A man reported that two black males in a light brown Nissan rear-ended him then fired shots at him. The suspects then took his 2005 white Chevrolet Impala.

"Of course we think it's the same set of suspects," Chief Deputy Randy Christian said. "This is unusual violence for that area and that time of day. And two in an hour is highly unusual," he added.

Good news for Cullman shoppers: several stores damaged in the March hail storm are set to open in the next couple weeks. The parking lot is still pretty empty, but the store signs are fixed, the roofs have been repaired, and instead of 'closed' signs, there are now signs that say 'coming soon.'
