More red light cameras could be coming to a Tuscaloosa intersection near you.
Right now, the city has one red light camera on 15th Street and 6th Avenue. FOX6 News has learned that at least five more cameras could be coming but those cameras need approval from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).
City officials have been waiting six months to get that approval. Now city engineers are demanding meetings with ALDOT. We're told that meeting is this Friday. ALDOT said the reason for the delay could be heavy workloads and scheduling conflicts.
The red light camera on 15th Street has been in operation since September. We're told over 300 violations have been handed out so far.
If ALDOT approves more cameras, they could go at these intersections:
University Boulevard and Lurleen Wallace Boulevard North
University Boulevard and Lurleen Wallace Boulevard South
McFarland Boulevard and Skyland Boulevard
McFarland Boulevard and James I. Harrison Parkway
Interstate 359 and Skyland Boulevard
