Greater Columbus Fair now underway!


If you're looking for afun activity that the whole family can enjoy, look no further! The Greater ColumbusFair is in town all week with brand new attractions. 

News Leader 9's DanteRenzulli was live from the Civic Center parking lot where the finalpreparations are wrapping up and they're getting ready for this opening night.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, theyopened up the gates on Victory Drive to the first visitors and this fair wasofficially underway.  Dante was out thereall day getting an inside look at the preparations and everything this eventhas to offer.

It's a carnival, circus,and science fair all wrapped into one, and it's right here in our own backyard.The parking lot of the Columbus Civic Center has been transformed into awhimsical wonderland for everyone to enjoy. The rides are assembled and thefood is ready to eat. 

Speaking of eating, theyoungest female tiger trainer in the country says she's not afraid of becominga big cat's dinner at the first performance of the tiger encounter.

"Well they don't lookat you as food, they don't see you as meat, like the same thing that I eat," saidFelicia Frisco. "They don't look at you like that.  The only incidents where people have gottenbit is usually out of fear or it's always human error."

Fair officials say they'reprepared to see increased attendance for the new events.

"Well of course we'rehoping for more people this year," said Robin Wallace with the Columbus CivicCenter. "We've got a beautiful weather forecast in store for the six days thatthe Greater Columbus Fair is open. We have a circus, we have the puppetone rockers-they'll be travelling down the midway, it's a travelling piano on wheels.  And we are really excited about all thepeople who are going to be coming for that this week."

Early in the day, workerswere putting the finishing touches on equipment and getting everything readyfor the big first night.  One localvendor says she's expecting to go through thousands of potatoes to make Frenchfries.

"We have to set up,we have to make sure we go through every potato, make sure they're fresh, makesure they're good, make sure that we have good fryers, fresh oil, and we'reready to go," said Jaqueline Canty with Canty's Café Express.

They've got a special dealfor the first night of the fair- admission tickets are only $2, which is lessthan half price so this is a great time to come down.

Wednesday will be an evenbetter night to visit because News Leader 9 is sponsoring two for the price of oneunlimited ride wristbands, which are good for every single ride in thepark.  You buy one and Channel 9 buys theother, because we want to make sure you're having a good time at the fair!
