MIDFIELD, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Board of Education is expected to vote to remove the Midfield City Schools from state supervision Thursday.

Midfield has been under state supervision since February 2012. State School Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice sent in a team to help with school finances and to address academic problems at Midfield High School.

Bice credited Midfield with working with the state department of education rather than fighting it as the Birmingham Board of Education did. The superintendent said by being cooperative Midfield cut the time of the supervision while Birmingham is looking at another year under state control.

Mayor Gary Richardson had called the state supervision embarrassing but believes thanks to the state the school system is in better shape to today.

"It means a lot We are so appreciative of the intervention. It helped a lot as a result our school system is moving forward in the right direction," Richardson said.
