BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County officials and employees are turning pink this week.

Tuesday at the Jefferson County courthouse several people were wearing pink, all part of Race for the Cure on Saturday starting at Linn Park.

Jefferson County has formed its own race team called "JeffCo Fight Club."

Commissioner Sandra Little Brown is leading their effort. One year ago this past Saturday, Brown was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Today as a breast cancer survivor, Brown wants to take an active role in raising breast cancer awareness.

"One year ago I was scared to death. I was scared I was not going to be here today. So God's grace and mercy spared my life and I'm here working for the people. I feel real good about that," Brown said.

Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington said the commission is proud to support Brown's efforts to use her struggle to promote the race.

I’m tracking cloudy skies to the east of I-65 and mostly sunny skies to the west of I-65. This is impacting temperatures already and will result in highs in the middle 70s west and upper 60s east. I do expect thinning clouds this afternoon from west to east.
