BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU senior wide receiver Kadron Boone is like one of those old, reliable buddies that seems drifts in and out of your life. Every now and then you forget about him, but sure enough you reunite again and everybody has a good time.

Case in point was Saturday afternoon in Athens, GA. Through four games, junior wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. were totally dominating the LSU receiving numbers, hauling in all 10 of senior quarterback Zach Mettenberger's touchdown receptions. Boone, on the other hand, had only one reception for 13 yards and no scores entering the Tigers' battle with the Bulldogs.

"He came with it," LSU junior center Elliot Porter said of Boone, "And I love it."

Indeed, Boone scored twice during an electric first quarter between the Tigers and Bulldogs. The first touchdown happened on a 48-yard catch and run from Mettenberger on a 3rd and 7, to tie the score 7-7. Boone then made a second scoring grab on a 3rd and goal strike from Mettenberger, to give the Tigers a brief 14-7 advantage. It continued a familiar theme for Boone, who seems to be LSU's version of Cris Carter - all he does is catch touchdowns.

"One thing I've learned here is just being patient," Boone said. "Your number is called, make a play. And, I had the opportunity to make two big plays and I made the most of them."

"I'm not surprised. Kadron's an elite receiver," Porter added.

Boone has scored one touchdown for every five catches he's made at LSU. He has hauled in 40 passes for 547 yards and eight scores during his career. Last season, he caught TD passes in the Tigers' first three games of the year, before making an incredible, diving, 29-yard scoring reception at Texas A&M. In 2011, Boone also hauled in Mettenberger's only TD pass of the season in a rout over Northwestern State, as the younger quarterback got very limited work behind veterans Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson.

But despite Boone's early heroics Saturday, then No. 6 LSU still dropped a 44-41 shootout to then No. 10 Georgia.

"This game doesn't make or break our season. There's a lot of football to be played. If we play our cards right, we've got a good chance at playing them (Georgia) again. But, we have to take it one game at a time," Boone smoothly stated.

Next up is a battle with another group of Bulldogs, as the No. 10 Tigers travel to Mississippi State on Saturday for a 6 p.m. kickoff on ESPN. In 2011, a powerful LSU team that started the year 13-0 led the Bulldogs just 6-3 at halftime in Starkville. Eventually, the Tigers won 19-6.

"Oh man, there's a lot of cowbells over there. That's all I heard. I'm trying to talk to the coaches and all I hear is the cowbells going," Boone laughingly recalled.

LSU hasn't loss to MSU since 1999 and has won 20 of the last 21 meetings between the two.

LSU went back to work this week in preparation for the Citrus Bowl against Notre Dame. A win would be nice, but this is also a chance to get some freshman playing time to get ready for 2018. Well it'll come in practice only. "Those guys will get more reps. So I'll give them a couple of more reps at the end of a team period. It's sending the wrong message to our football team.
