Shutdown closes Redstone Arsenal commissary

The commissary on Redstone Arsenal will close Tuesday at 7 p.m. because of the government shutdown. Employees at the store will be among the thousands of furloughed arsenal employees.

Marilyn Truesdale is one of them. She's worked at the commissary for 15 years.

"Right now, it's going to affect me, and not only me, but everybody, American people trying to make it," she said.

Since there is no time frame for the shutdown, all of the food that will spoil, like milk or meat, need to get out the store. Customers are more than willing to help with that.

Marilyn said they've been getting calls all day from people asking if they're open and wanting to stock up before they close.

"Everybody is shopping today, trying to get as much groceries as they can because they don't know what's going to happen," she explained.

People are frustrated and angry at Congress over this shutdown, and Marilyn is no different.

"I feel like, why don't they give up their check for one day, miss work for a whole week," she said.
