Marine police say a man drowned in western Alabama Friday afternoon.
They say the drowning happened near Lock 8 near Akron on the Greene-Hale county line. Police say three men and one woman were pleasure boating along the Black Warrior River around 6:15 a.m. when the boat hit something in the water.
Marine police say the craft may have hit a sand bar before veering off and hitting an embankment.
Others in the boat suffered injuries. Witnesses tell FOX6 that the boat looked similar to a bass fishing boat.
"But he did have lights but he was flying and I told my wife, I said, 'My he could hit a log or anything..he shouldn't be going that fast even if he has lights,'" Tommy Ward said.
Police say none of the boaters were wearing life jackets at the time of the crash.
