BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The monument dedicated to the four little girls killed in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing is going up at Kelly Ingram Park.

The "Four Spirits" statue arrived in a huge crate on a flatbed truck around 8 a.m. and it took crews about three hours to get the first part installed.

The statue features three girls on a park bench and a fourth girl playing on the side next to it.

Most of the statue was still covered as crews used a crane to move it to its final location in Kelly Ingram Park.

The "Four Spirits" statues remembers Carole Robertson, Denise McNair, Addie Mae Collins, and Cynthia Wesley who died in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing 50 years ago Sunday.

One of the girls is holding two doves which represents two little boys who also died that day, Virgil Ware and Johnny Robinson. They were shot and killed that fateful Sunday afternoon.

The artist who designed the statue, Elizabeth MacQueen, says she wants people to see her work and remember hate is never the answer.

"Death, murder and mayhem by the KKK, people filled with hate that caused so much pain to people because other people are different, that's got to stop," MacQueen said.

The statue will be unveiled to the public Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.

A very humid air mass remains parked over Alabama Wednesday night and this will lead to some more patchy fog for the start of the day Thursday. I do think we will see a better coverage of scattered storms.
