Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn says he is proud of the way the Auburn Tigers played on Saturday in their victory over the Washington State Cougars on Saturday.
"First of all, I'm very proud of our team," said Malzahn as he opened the post game press conference. "They found a way to win."
Malzahn said he felt like the Tigers made a lot of mistakes on their season opener, but they found a way to win. It's an aspect of the game Malzahn prefers to focus on.
"My big deal was adversity. I wanted to see how we handled it. I didn't see heads down and pouting. I saw bright eyes. I saw hustle on and off the field no matter what the score was. I'm proud of our guys for that," said Malzahn.
According to the coach, this win is something all of Auburn needed.
"I'm just so proud of our guys. They went through a storm last year. You're very happy for them. I'm' happy for our coaches and our fans. Our fans deserve to win," said Malzahn.
The coach also took time during the press conference to explain the mysterious 2-point conversion after the Tigers' first touchdown in the game. Malzahn says it was all for momentum.
"You have certain plays, and if they're there, you run them. If not, you don't. We just want to try to put as much pressure on defense as possible. I thought that was a pretty good momentum builder," said Malzahn.
Next week, the Tigers host Arkansas St. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
