Birmingham citizens to cast votes for mayor, city council, school board

It is a big day for voters and city leaders in Birmingham. Voters will choose the next mayor, city council and school board.

There are 130,000 registered voters in Birmingham. City Clerk Lee Frazier says he cannot predict what the voter turnout will be, but he says absentee voting has been one of the highest turnouts he has seen in some time, with 500 to 600 votes cast already.

Frazier says the day before election there is one thing he is focused on: making sure election morning gets off to a smooth start.

"For me, the biggest thing is making sure polling places open on time," said Frazier. "Want to make sure people are there, facility unlocked, ready for them to come in, set up."

Birmingham voters will only see the races in their district on their ballot with the mayoral race on every ballot. If you have any problems or complaints, you are urged to call the city clerk's office. They will be taking calls from voters. The number is 254-2290. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Make sure you bring some form of I.D.
