There is a warrant out for the arrest of Fairfield councilor Darnell Gardner after Mayor Kenneth Coachman told deputies that Gardner threatened him.
Coachman says during a Thursday, Aug. 15 meeting with the councilors, Gardner became upset with him because Gardner didn't like Coachman's response to a question about the local housing authority.
Coachman claims that Gardner called him "sweetie." Coachman told the responding officer that he took offense to the comment and told Gardner that he was not his sweetie.
Coachman claims that Gardner then "yelled" at him that "I'll kick your damn ass" and "I'll take you out of here." Coachman told the officer that he feared for his safety after the comments.
The next day, Aug. 16, Coachman went to the Jefferson County DA's Office in Bessemer and signed a warrant for Gardner's arrest. FOX6 News has checked court records and it doesn't appear that Gardner is in custody.
Reporter Sherea Harris attended a council meeting Monday evening and reports that Gardner did not attend.
She will have more on this story tonight on FOX6 News at 9 and 10.
