It's more than just the start of a school year for students at one Tuscaloosa school.
The new University Place elementary and middle schools are officially reopened after being destroyed in the April 27 tornado.
The new building sits on the same site as the former University Place in the Forest Lake neighborhood. The elementary school's principal says it's a great homecoming for teachers and students.
"Two years ago, this building was in wreckage. But now, to see all the smiling faces fromt he students to the parents to teachers, it's just fantastic," Deron Cameron said.
University Place Elementary School is also the first STEAM certified elementary school in the world. STEAM is a program that incorporates technology into all aspects of learning. The school system made spots available to students outside the University Place zone who wanted to participate in the STEAM program.
