Most AL students head back to school today

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Lot of families are waking up this morning and getting ready for their new school year routine. Monday marks the first day of school for most students across the state.

In Tuscaloosa County, University Place School will welcome students for the first time since the April 27th tornado. A ribbon cutting at the campus was held Friday. Among the new features is a Lego room designed to teach students robotic technology and a new science lab.

Drivers should know the start of school means a change in speed limits at school zones. It is 25 miles per hour during school start and end times.

Police say drivers need to be alert, aware, and prepared to stop for pedestrians and school buses. Alabama authorities say they will have a "zero tolerance" approach to traffic enforcement in school zones.
